MCR °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ Salon discusses architecture, quantum mechanics and HIV treatment
The MCR °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ Salon met for its Hilary Term event, showcasing some of the cutting edge and thought-provoking research of its members.
For this meeting, the Salon welcomed First Lieutenant Greg Langone (MPhil, Engineering/Architecture), Daan Timmers (DPhil, Quantum Mechanics) and Dr. Fatemeh Moussavi-Pourghaebi (Jenner Institute, HIV Research) to elucidate their research areas.
Recently promoted to First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Greg graduated in civil engineering from West Point and is a Barry scholar. Greg shared his insights on Oxford’s architecture and what has remained unchanged in nearly 700 years.
Daan is originally from the Netherlands, graduated from Fitzwilliam College Cambridge, and is now a DPhil student in Condensed Matter Theory at Oxford. Daan is also on °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s University Challenge team. He broke down quantum mechanics for our listeners and connected it to our everyday understanding of reality.
Dr. Fatemeh Moussavi-Pourghaebi is a clinical research fellow at the Jenner Institute, specializing in HIV research. She trained at Keele University. At the event, she shared a powerful patient story and discussed the latest in HIV treatment and the quest for a cure.
It was another fascinating and spectacular evening of conversation and interdisciplinary celebration, a true celebration of the diverse and pioneering research taking place within the °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ community.
